We here at the Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel are excited to see what 2017 will hold, but first we have to celebrate this historic year. If you haven’t yet decided what you are doing for New Year’s Eve do not fear we are here to help you plan your ideal New Year’s Eve. We’ve found a plethora of events in and around Chicago and the North Shore suburbs. We’re certain one of these will help you and your family have a great time as you ring out the old and ring in the new.
Celebrate with the largest confetti drop you’ve ever seen at Kohl Children’s Museum. Photo courtesy of Kohl Children’s Museum.
New Year’s Eve is traditionally thought of as a holiday for adults. The champagne, the parties, and the late bedtime, often leaves kids feeling left out.. However, look no further than the Kohl Children’s Museum where kids of all ages will get to celebrate ringing in the New Year without having to fight to stay awake till midnight. The Museum will be transforming an entire wing into a New Year’s Eve style party reminiscent of Times Square. Kohl Children’s Museum has thought of everything including a concert from children’s performers Wendy Morgan & DB, a dance party with its very own DJ, and the biggest confetti drop you’ve ever seen. This amazing event will be happening not once but twice on December 31st .The first celebration will be from 8:30 to 11 am, and the second will be happening from 12:30 to 3 pm. Tickets to this amazing event can be purchased here.
Glenview knows how to celebrate, and it was no surprise to us to hear that The Glenview Park District will be hosting an assortment of events to celebrate the end of 2016. Celebrate with the whole family by checking out their Happy Noon Year’s Eve Party for children from 3 to 9 years old. This party takes place from 10:30 am to 12 pm in the main lobby of the Chestnut Ave building where they will have face painting, open play in the gym, and bouncy inflatables. Be sure to be in the lobby at noon when they close out the celebrations with a massive balloon drop!
Looking to celebrate a little later in the day, they’ve got you covered. The Glenview Park District will be holding their Family New Year’s Party at the Glenview Ice Center from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm for open skate. Open skate will end with a New Year’s Eve Kiddie Toast at 7pm to bid adieu to 2016.
Don’t worry adults The Glenview Park district hasn’t forgotten about you! If you’re like us, you like to start celebrating early on New Year’s Eve. Join us for their New Year’s Eve Soiree, an upscale luncheon including a champagne toast and music. The lunch starts at 12:15 and the musical entertainment will be the big band stylings of the Falconaires.
The Happy Noon Year’s Eve Party and New Year’s Eve Soiree will both take place at 2400 Chestnut Ave., Glenview, IL 60026, and the Family New Year’s Party will take place at 1851 Landwehr Road Glenview, IL 60026, both locations are just under a 15 minute drive from The Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel.

We’ve left our all time favorite party for our last recommendation. If you are looking to celebrate the end of this year with a blow out bash to remember, we recommend heading down to the historic Navy Pier. Navy Pier is host to many New Year’s celebrations, but it is their Chicago Resolution Gala is our all time favorite way to uncork a year. This is the 5th year for this epic party, and it is poised to be the best year yet. Chicago Bulls music coordinator DJ Metro is headlining, and with not one but three different party rooms, you are sure to find the mood and dance floor that suits you. After the countdown and bidding adieu to 2016 end your night with the perfect view of the annual fireworks over Lake Michigan to help ring in 2017. Purchase your tickets to this once in a lifetime event here.
Navy Pier is located at 600 E Grand Ave Chicago, IL 60611, just a 45 minute Metra ride into the city followed by a short Taxi or Uber ride. Or just jump on the 124 bus for a penny for a safe easy way to fully enjoy your night of revelry.
